short stories of fall: collab with diamond! πŸ˜πŸ‚

Hey guys!! Welcome back to Maggie’s Doodles! Today I’m collabing with the incredible Diamond 😎 We’ve done multiple collaborations together, including translating French lyrics and making doodles with our stuffies! She’s so creative and I love writing posts with her.

Today we sent each other a couple of fall-themed images and we’re writing stories based off of them! Definitely drop by her blog to read her writing🧑

By the way the theme of my stories today isn’t based on my personal life…? πŸ˜‚ I just wrote where the pictures led me, drawing from others’ experiences and weaving my own tale. So I’m fine haha

The leaves crunched softly beneath my boots. The lamps nodded kindly above me, a gentle reminder that evening was coming.

Smiling to no one in particular, I continued my walk down the lane.

The hand warmers in my coat pockets had cooled off some, but I still appreciated their faint warmth. I turned them over, my mind wandering back to his hands, the ones I used to hold, the ones that kept me warm. The memory chilled me now, so I trained my eyes on the present.

Sniffing faintly, I could have sworn I smelled a campfire nearby. As it was, no residual smoke dotted the surrounding air, so I resigned myself to the ghosts of campfire tales past.

A woman and her dog began walking toward me, the fluffy hood of the woman’s jacket matching the beautiful mane of her dog. I offered them both a smile as they trotted by. The dog’s collar jingled merrily, reminding me that Christmas would soon be upon us.

The library’s probably closed now, I thought. I’d have to pick up Great Expectations tomorrow.

I looked over to the horizon, blinking at the buildings that blocked my view. I could feel it, more than I could see it.

The sun was setting on another season of my life.

Two weeks earlier…

“He’s not the one for you.” My co-worker defiantly popped the cherry of her milkshake into her mouth.

I smiled, a little bitterly, with a dash of self-loathing. We were sitting on a park bench in my favorite park.

It could have been such a nice day.

“I know,” I responded. I continued stirring my latte, which I cradled in my lap.

She leaned forward until I looked at her. “Then what are you gonna do about it?”

I looked down at our text conversations, which were illuminated on my leg. There were my explanations, his short responses, the final words I sent that he hadn’t bothered to open. That was two hours ago.

She tapped a manicured nail around my screen, arriving at the page that said “Delete Contact?” I laughed in spite of myself.

She sipped on her autumn milkshake, giving me a pointed look. “Do it, girl.”

“Just like that?”

“Just like that.”

“After two years?”

“Respectfully.”

I stared at the beautiful fall scenery, wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt. But all I could see were doubts.

Thanks so much for reading!
