chattanooga trip! // pt. 1 – aquarium & travel diaries πŸ

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Maggie’s Doodles! Last week, I went with my family on a trip to Chattanooga! We really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to show you the beautiful pictures I took!

I’m breaking up this post into two parts. In the first (this post), I’ll chat about going to the Chattanooga Aquarium and exploring the city with Joshua! And tomorrow I’ll post the city photography I took (which I want to do a LOT more of, by the way! I haven’t done much urban photography yet and I LOVE it). Oh and there will be nature photographs in tomorrow’s post, too.

If I didn’t separate this post into two, there would be 54 pictures in one post aha~ You don’t want that, I don’t want that, so let’s not do that πŸ˜‚

Let the fun begin!

First of all, I didn’t get a pic of us, but I traveled with Joshua in his car, and our parents and siblings took the family car! Joshua and I chatted about life, mental health, our childhood, etc, and listened to music! We also made decisions about exploring Chattanooga, which was fun and independent, but also a bit intimidating. I’m usually part of a large group, so it was quite different!

We met up with our fam at the rest stop to chat and have lunch!

Here’s my lunch! I ended up eating half of the pb&j sandwich because it was just eh~ and the chocolate cookies came from Joshua: he got one for himself, but the machine gave him two! 🀩 I had the cheez-its with cheese dip my mom brought (I just realized that’s cheese with cheese lol), ate both chocolate cookies, and saved the Oreos for later.

I sat next to this little one for lunch! Izzy’s shirt is so cute – I helped her pick it out on Amazon a couple weeks ago!

Joshua wanted to stop and get a drink, so he got a Coke at McDonald’s! I got a free Sprite because he had to make a small purchase to get his rewards, haha

Woohoo! To Chattanooga we go!

You can see Izzy’s shirt better in this photo. I love this perspective shot of her! We were waiting in the membership room while we got our passes.

This room was very impressive and cool! The steam coming from above made it muggy in there though, haha

The otters were SO cute! I love how big their exhibit is – it gives them lots of space to run around, swim, and play!

I LOVE this one of Izzy watching the otters!

I had a hard time getting clear shots of the fish. The lighting was dimmer, so I had to bring down the exposure for most pictures, and even then they weren’t very clear. I’d have to have a different camera to take better aquarium pictures!

It’s kinda blurry, but she’s so cute haha!

Here’s another part of the room I showed you guys! It was epic

Izzy climbed up and got in my lap while I was trying to take pictures of the alligators, haha!

Then Samuel walked up and wanted to be in a selfie, too!

The next three pictures are alligators, so if you wanna speed past them or end the post here, be my guest ehe (you can scroll down until you see the starfish divider!)

I had quite a time photographing the gators! The glass, my phone’s filter, the lighting, and their movements almost made it impossible for me to get the shot I could envision. Most of the time, I love photographing what I see (in nature, in my day, in my city, etc), but sometimes I can feel there’s a particular angle I want to capture! I twisted into all sorts of standing positions, along with sitting on the fake tree, to find this picture:

I wouldn’t say I necessarily like gators, and I certainly don’t want to encounter them in the wild, but they were really interesting to photograph!

Here’s the portfolio behind the couple of gator pics that turned out, haha! A lot of times, I take two pics of the same thing for the slight differences, then I delete one. It ensures that I’ll have at least one I really like!

I’m not sure how many of the pics above I’ll keep, since the scratchy glass, loss of focus, and motion blur tainted many of them. We’ll see!

AWW this little guy’s so cute haha

I told my mom this one looks like the ‘{‘ curly bracket lol no regrets~

AHHH NOODLE FISH

so maybe it’s actually a pipe fish

The butterfly room was so fun! Only sad thing was, most of them wouldn’t land. So I only got a few pics

This one was SO excited about these flowers that it wouldn’t stop movingggg lol, but it made for a cool pic!

I LOVE that there’s a plant in front of this one!!

We went to a few more aquarium exhibits, including the one where you can pet stingrays! But I didn’t take pictures of those because I was busy petting the rays and fish lol, or the rooms were so dark I knew pics were pointless. (Oh I got to pat a yellow tang!! I never thought I’d be able to say I’ve pet a fish lolol)

Joshua and I split up from the rest of our group once we’d finished at the aquarium. We went rock climbing, which I also didn’t take pics of because it was disappointing! It felt like I was hurting everywhere, it was so sad. My fingers, wrists, feet, arms, stomach (from where the cables shoved into my abs when I got down off the walls)… I don’t know why people rock climb?

So after that poop experience, Joshua and I went to my favorite ice cream place: Ben & Jerry’s!

I definitely loved going back here (last time I went was in 2017), but I was hurting and trying to get over the major disappointment of rock climbing. Joshua asked the Ben & Jerry’s worker what her favorite flavor was, and she said the s’mores flavor in a waffle cone! So we both tried that and BOI was it good! How they managed to make ice cream taste like toasted marshmallow, graham crackers, and chocolate, you got me haha

Joshua wanted to rent bikes and ride around the city! We’ve never done anything like that before, and that was exciting. I loved riding over the bridges and seeing the view of the city! (You’ll see more cityscapes in tomorrow’s post)

Biking selfieee, I’ve become a bit of a pro at biking and photographing haha

Joshua and I had Red Lobster for dinner! I got chicken tenders, honey mustard, fries, Caesar salad (which was SOO GOOD), cheddar bay biscuits, and strawberry lemonade! I loved all of it, but the salad was unbeatable haha. Joshua had salmon and ended up loving it!

Thanks for reading!
Which pics were your favorite?
