mental health action day 2021 ~ 4 tips to take care of yourself today!

Hi guys! Sooo while innocently scrolling down YouTube this morning (πŸ˜‚), I came upon a pop-up thing that said today is Mental Health Action Day! I thought that sounded super cool, and I was like hey this would be a great opportunity to chat about mental health on my blog! So that’s what I’m doing today! πŸ’œ

Today is the first ever Mental Health Action Day! That means if you do a helpful post on your blog today, and/or you make some awesome positive changes in supporting your mental health, you’ll get to take part in something awesome 🀩

The tips I’ve written in this post are things I follow in my own life all the time. I come back around to them when things get tough and I need some motivation.

I hope you find this advice helpful! πŸ’•

4 tips to take care of yourself today!

1. Accept where you are right now while pursuing positive change πŸ’œ

This one’s VERY important! By acknowledging where you are today and being okay with that, it will give you the strength you need to move forward and be different in positive ways.

You can see that you need to improve without putting yourself in a negative light.

Think of how you would interact with a friend who’s in a tough mental health place and wants to make positive changes! You would help them move forward, not say hurtful things about where they are right now. So do the same for yourself: accept what you can do now and strive for that positive progress.

2. Handcraft new habits that will support your mental health goals πŸ’œ

Identify your short-, medium-, and long-term goals as you come up with them, then break them down into attainable steps! What you do today will support your future. Think of what your dream self would look like, then determine how you can take small steps today toward that image. Do you want to be happier, healthier, and more balanced? Spend time with the people you love. Choose healthy food options and drink an extra glass of water every day. Approach each day with gratitude. Those are just some examples of how you can take a big goal and work toward them today! πŸ’•

3. Change your thoughts and the way you speak about yourself πŸ’œ

I watched this video by UnJaded Jade a few weeks ago and it really helped me a lot! She talked about a fixed mindset vs. a growth mindset. Since watching that, it has helped me to look at my current struggles with optimism and positivity. While I’m not good at x,y,z yet, that doesn’t mean I never will be!

4. Evaluate the influences you’re surrounding yourself with πŸ’œ

I wrote a post about this a while back! Who you spend the most time with impacts your mood and even your personality. The books you read will either make you a happier person or a more dismal person. The movies you watch can be a positive part of your life or a negative part of your day.

While you’re evaluating the influences in your life, really tune in to how interactions, hobbies, and pastimes make you feel. Choose the ones that add to your life and get rid of/lessen the impact of negative ones!

Thanks so much for reading! I hope this post has helped you in some ways to help you along on your mental health journey. πŸ’œ We’re all on one and I want my blog to be a helpful, inspiring space and be an encouragement to you!

  1. Who you spend most time with defines your thoughts – such a powerful statement. This is something I’ve been feeling over the last few days. Not sure whether it was to do with the phase of life or covid, I’d started withdrawing and meeting less minds. It is a nice revelation to actually meet a few people and exchange thoughts. Makes me feel that life has so much more richness to offer. Can’t say I haven’t met annoying ones in the process, but that’s part of everything isnt it ?! πŸ˜‰
