doodle flops: when doodles don’t go as planned

Hi! Well… this post is gonna be hilarious! πŸ˜‚

Today I introduce to you the ALL NEW SERIES doodle flops! The ultimate behind-the-scenes of my life as a doodler! πŸ˜‚πŸŽ¨πŸ’•

I want to give a big shoutout to Diamond for giving me the idea for this series! When I shared some doodle bloopers with her, she was like hey that would make a great post! I totally wouldn’t have thought of that myself, so I’m really glad she did 😍

(If you’re not already following her blog, please do – she does these super creative photo stories with her stuffies that are so fun to read!)

I’m at the point in my doodle career where, when a doodle idea absolutely bombs, I don’t throw it away. Instead, I take pictures and laugh! This is awesome progress for me, since I have previously been super sensitive about shortcomings πŸ˜‚πŸ’•

For this first installment, I doodled a bunch of animals! I decided to include the bloopers right alongside the successes, so you can see what they all look like together. It’s fun to see the progression of wow that angle didn’t work, to ok I almost have it, and then finally there you go! πŸ˜‚πŸ’•

I can’t wait for you to see the hilarity! Ooh yeah, I have one more special thanks to give: my family and some of my blogging friends helped me come up with the baby animal ideas! So thank you D, PottahWand, Evin, Diamond, Samuel, and my parents! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’–

I’ve been transitioning into doodling on blank cardstock instead of index cards like I did for a while. It’s nice to have groups of doodles together since they’re usually for a specific project, and it makes it easier to edit all of them on Superimpose!

Alright! It’s blooper time!

doodle flops

Okay. You know what all of these are supposed to be? Hedgehogs! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

You see that little bloop at the middle-top of the page? That guy is what inspired this entire series! Look at that little SQUASH 🀣 look at his SNOUT. lol

The next one looks like a little piece of lint with a face! Then you got a spiky banana, and a very unpleasant blob resembling a hedgehog. I’m sure you can understand why I couldn’t stop doodling there lol – I had to have ONE hedgehog doodle that wasn’t disturbing/hilarious!

At the bottom left, you have a banana guy and his banana son! And then, the hedgehogs we’ve all been waiting for… Arnold and Terrence! They’re a super cute father and son duo 🀩

Uh- these are supposed to be three ostrich chicks. I’m kinda proud of the fluff bodies and necks? But the faces (save the super happy one on the right) just didn’t turn out haha

Oh and you can see a cute hedgehog that snuck his way in on the top right! He’s cute but he’s kinda got a hamster face

I tend to rate doodles with a one- to five-star rating system, and usually the four and five star doodles are the ones that make it to my blog. I would have given these ostrich chicks a 3.5 star, because they barely make the cut 🀣

Alright friends, here comes the mother-load! Look how cute that giraffe calf turned out 🀩 and then!! We have a GREMLIN with the semi-body of a giraffe.

How could I have managed to blooper so miserably (yes, that’s a verb now) after that successful cutie giraffe to the left. Ohhhh boi

Wouldn’t be hilarious if I set my profile picture to gremlin giraffe (or… girafflin πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‚) for a day with no explanation whatsoever

I’m not actually too disappointed by either one of these! Although… can you tell what they’re supposed to be? haha

The top one is a chameleon with a teardrop head! And the other one is a bearded dragon 🀣

These two just ended up on this post because they were part of the animals project I was doing. They’re actually first-try successes! I didn’t draw them more than once πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

(but uh, that teardrop head’s not entirely accurate lol)

Woo there’s a lot going on in this one! See those masked bandits to the left? I’m sure you can tell those are sloths. I was progressively getting better at drawing the bodies (especially the claws on the tree branch *chef’s kiss*), but my gosh the faces 🀣

That mysterious creature in the middle was almost a sloth, but I got so agitated by its beak mouth that I gave it a neck! Then I wrote ‘bruh’ next to it, finalizing my defeat πŸ˜‚ What do you think it looks like now?? haha

Then you have a really cute pug with her baby! I love how they turned out! (And the throw pillow next to the baby is really cute)

Look! It’s the coooow family *snaps fingers enthusiastically*

I never could get get the face to look right. *sad audience sounds* The face of the middle one turned out hilarious (she’s got like a rock head), but overall my cow-doodling days are over.

Wait no there’s more-

I actually did work on the muzzles! But the problem with a few of these animals (especially the cows) is that they don’t look right without noses. Or snouts. Or muzzles! My doodle style does not allow for noses. πŸ™ƒ lol so a few of the cow heads (that sounds weird) turned out alright, but they’re not my style. Even though I drew them! Ok moving on

Oh gosh look at the cow with the boomerang head! Idk how to describe where it is but I’m sure you can spot it haha

And then there’s that one that’s closest to the bottom of the page… we’re not gonna talk about it

Yaaaaay capybaras!!! But again, the needed face shape didn’t work with my face format. Hey Jay Leno, how are ya haha

But the baby’s so SQUISHY and CUTE *squee*

So we got two things going on here: a footless giraffe (where’s my brain gone) flamingo πŸ¦©πŸ˜‚ I actually like how he turned out, but the style of the face looks like some random comic artist from the 90s drew it!! lol

Then you got a lion dad and his son! They’re cute but I wasn’t a fan of the turnout because it was too similar to lions I drew a few months ago, so it didn’t feel original

Hehe once again, there’s a lot going on! Wow, there’s a very one-dimensional dolphin in the top right corner 🀣 (I was trying)

The sheep and his son are pretty cute! The lamb needs to eat more tho

The flamingo and his chick were okay but again, not my style

Then check out the flamingo near the bottom right corner! haha! What happened to its beak? That looks so hilarious πŸ˜‚

For today’s grand finale, have fun looking at the doodle sheets below! That’s the life of a doodle artist for ya: doodles, doodles everywhere… ingenuity surrounded by insanity πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’–

I want to give a huge THANK YOU for reading today’s post! I always love writing blog posts, but this one felt especially fun and original. I really enjoyed chatting about my doodles (flops, wins, and all) with you!

Which flop/s were your favorite? πŸ˜‚ What would you love to see me doodle next? Let’s chat n the comments!
