my late summer morning routine | 2020

I thought I’d share a peek inside my life today! Posts like this help me to get to know other bloggers better, and I’d like to share content that I enjoy seeing on your blogs!

Today, you can see what I’ve been doing every morning for the past few weeks! As summer comes to a close, I’ve gotten in the rhythm of a basic structure to my morning. I really like having specific things I do when I get out of bed, because having an initial motivator to get out of bed and stretch is much needed!

My morning begins whenever I get up. This is dependent on how late my brother and little sisters went to bed the night before, which changes based on their activity level of the day. Usually, they’re all asleep between 10:00 and 10:45 PM and I’m asleep by 11:15. All the songs that get stuck in my head over the course of the day and the thoughts I sort through can take thirty minutes. 😉 I definitely don’t hit the pillow and I’m out, lol! That’s a superpower 😂

Anyway, I’ve been getting up at 7:00 AM recently. But for some reason this morning, I woke up at 7:45. I only set an alarm if I need to be up at specific time, but I’ve found that’s just not a fun way to start the day (even if the alarm tone is a song I like). Waking up naturally is my favorite.

I get up, stretch my arms, and leave my room as quietly as I can. This is hard because my brother Samuel is a light sleeper and his bed’s right by the door. Elizabeth is a heavy sleeper so she usually wakes up whenever her internal clock rouses her. She’s across the room, anyway. The unfortunate thing about our bedroom door is that the door frame is painted instead of just being nice and silent wood, so any time you open the door, it goes CRACK! CRACK! CREEEEEAK and echoes across the room and rest of the house. If I open it fast, it’s louder. If I do it slowly it’s loud spread out over a period of several seconds. I can’t win so I often go with the sudden, loud option.

The first thing I do is waddle into the kitchen and get myself a glass of coffee. My dad usually has a pot ready and my glass and mom’s coffee mug set out, and if he hasn’t done that yet because I got up earlier, I just turn the coffee maker on.

Today’s pictures are brought to you by the Venus filter on RookieCam! I discovered it while trying to find a new, lightening filter because one of the pics in this post had long shadows and I wanted to brighten it. As soon as I tried out Venus I was like OOH!

I retrieve my phone, which I charge most nights on the breadbox in the kitchen. I caught up on notifications and checked my email.

After I’ve downed most of my coffee (I’m still not sure at this point if my caffeine intake is just a habit or if it actually helps me wake up), I get my laptop and headphones from the office and bring them into the dining room.

Here’s a photography tip for anytime you want to take a picture of a screen! Turn down the brightness of the screen until you can see what’s on it clearly from your camera’s viewfinder. It works every time for me 🙂

Since starting Chickadee Lover Maggie, I’ve written most of my posts shortly after waking up. I really enjoy finishing with my post of the day in the morning, then reading others’ blog posts in the afternoon.

Samuel took this picture for me. You can’t even tell that I’m wearing headphones because my hair’s so frizzy haha!

Since I start my day in a central part of the house, I’m usually there when Samuel and Izzy get up. Izzy sat near me on the love seat in the dining room so I went and took some pics with her.

Samuel and Izzy were in the living room playing with bean bags. I’ve been working on a blog post, but I stopped here and there to say good morning to them and look at things they were showing me (like when Izzy threw a bean bag at my back lol!).

I listened to A Million Dreams all the way through a few days ago and now I cannot stop listening to it! I’ve learned maybe 15-20% of it on the piano and I love it so much!

This morning wasn’t actually a typical one because I kept pausing what I was doing to take pictures of… what I was doing. Haha!

At this point I went and prepared my breakfast, which has been for the longest time maple and brown sugar oatmeal and an apple. 🙂

Right now, my morning routine is wrapping up. It’s 8:56 AM and around this time, I finish my blog post then start getting ready for the day. I’m about to work on the featured image for this post (click here to see how I make those!) then I’ll be publishing it! 🙂

    1. Yes!!! I absolutely love it! 🙌🏼💕 I haven’t seen the movie yet but after listening to the soundtrack I want to now!
      Yeah haha! Other times over the past few years I’d get up at 6:30, but my siblings’ bedtime has made that an uncomfortable time for me to get up. Yeah that internal clock can throw things off!

    1. Thanks Aanya! And yes – she got a cut a few days ago and it needed a bandage because it wasn’t healing. When she raises her eyebrows it reopened the wound, so the bandage will help. 🙂

  1. Oatmeal is a great breakfast food and that’s so cool that you can play A Million Dreams on the piano😊👏! The greatest Showman is a movie I can just keep rewatching 😂
    I get up between 6 and 7 and yep, I usually got to be around 11 ish as well!

    1. Aw thanks! I love having structure 👏🏼 although basically my late summer schedule came up with itself 😂👍🏼 I noticed I was doing the same thing every morning and a routine was born! haha

  2. Nice! I am really trying to come up with some sort of routine… so far it’s not working the best.. lol. Like, I know what needs to get done, but i just don’t have the motivation to do it!
    Also, this week has kind been off-wack for me, because for some reason, my anxiety has gotten whole lot worse..

    1. Thanks! Well the crazy thing about my current routine is that it came up with itself. 😂💜 other times I’ve outlined how I’d like to start the day, but this one just happened lol!
      Oh I’m sorry. *hugs* 💜 I’ve had some moments where my anxiety flared up recently too. I’m still learning about how to understand what I’m feeling so I can feel peaceful again. 😊

  3. Sounds like a great morning routine. I myself wake up, journal, learn Chinese, then it’s blogging for me (and exercise on alternate days). I like getting these things out of my way before my day starts, so that I can live the rest of the day guilt-free.
